The Bellingham Traverse is a multi-sport relay race that took place on September 21, the last day of summer. This was McNett's second year participating in the Traverse, and we showed up in style wearing our orange Gear Aid shirts with pride.
On race day we had a team breakfast, talked a bit about race strategy (pace, goals, logistics, etc.) and made our way down to the Boundary Bay outdoor garden for pre-race announcements. Then out to the Farmer's Market start line! Everyone at the market was invited to join in the countdown, "Ten... nine... eight... seven... six... five... four... THREE... TWO... ONE... GO!" And the greenway runners were off.
Folks were super nice out on the course, with people saying hello and thank you as we passed one another. The racers were having a good time, cheering one another on. And we couldn't have asked for better weather! Transitions were smooth, with a high-five relay from one leg to the next:
- Nicole - Greenway Run
- Josh P - Mountain Bike
- Kati - Road Bike
- Aaron - Trail Run
- Arianne & Josh C - Kayak
- Everyone - Team Trek to the finish line, and celebration at Boundary Bay Brewery
In the end our final team time was 4:08:00, a solid showing! Next year we're aiming to break the 4 hour mark...
Way to go Gear Aid - Team 616!
